The Sanctuary

Built in 1894, this is the third
sanctuary to house the congregation and ministry of the First Presbyterian
Church of Cranford. With its cathedral ceiling, warm wood tones
and glorious stained glass, the sanctuary provides an inspiring
setting in which to seek and find God.
The sanctuary building's exterior is an historic
Shingle Style building with Romanesque rounded arches. Architect
Charles G. Jones borrowed heavily from the style of Henry Hobson
Richardson (1838-1886). The windows are beautiful examples of "American
Opalescent" stained glass. The intricate designs incorporate
many glass types and textures, a variety of cast glass jewels, as
well as painted and fired glass. In 2000, members of First Presbyterian
Church embarked upon a challenging but crucial task of
restoring the stained
glass windows in order to preserve them as a uniquely
inspiring reminder of God's glory, as well as the ongoing dedication
of the members and friends of First Presbyterian Church whose faith
has shaped our past, present and future as God's people.
